Structure and Responsibilities

Governors are vital in setting the ethos and putting in place governance to ensure that children in care achieve well and have access to the right support. The governing body meet twice a term; once on pupil issues and once on finance and personnel issues.

Committees will be formed on an ad hoc basis etc for the Headteacher's performance management committee.

It is the role of the governing body to:

  • Ensure that there is a designated teacher who undertakes appropriate training (section 20(2) of the 2008 Act).
  • As a minimum governors must consider an annual report from the designated teacher which contains the information described in section 2.10 of this guidance.
  • The governing body and school leadership team should consider the report and act on any issues it raises so as to support the designated teacher and maximise the impact of the role.
