At Kendall we use Twinkl Phonics. Twinkl Phonics is a systematic, synthetic phonics program (SSP). It is a whole school program, linking phonics in EYFS and KS1, with reading and spelling from Year 1 to Year 6. The scheme builds and develops the skills and understanding children need to become effective and independent readers and writers. It is a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children starting by the age of five, with the aim of them becoming fluent readers by age seven.
At Kendall we sometimes use other phonics resources, for example Phoincs Play, within our phonics sessions and continuous provision (EYFS).

On entry to Kendall’s Foundation stage, all children are provided with a set of Phase 2 phonics flashcards and Phase 2 ‘tricky words’. You can also download copies of the phonic recognition cards, decodable words and tricky words that are taught in EYFS and Year 1 and recorded in the children's phonics books at the bottom of this page.
We hold a Parent Information Event for Phonics in the Autumn term to provide parents and carers with information and strategies to support their child’s reading and phonics at home.
