Last week Year 2 visited the synagogue as part of their RE unit of work
on special places. They looked at the inside of the synagogue and there were
gasps of amazement when the ark was opened to reveal the beautifully adorned Torah
scrolls. Last week was also the Jewish festival of Sukkot which is a harvest
festival. The children were given the chance to go in to a real sukkah which is
a booth or shelter. Jewish people spend time with their families there and eat
their meals in the sukkah. The children were able to sample challah (Jewish
bread) and eat fruit which symbolises harvest. |
